I am shook, you guys. It feels like there’s a million beauty subscription services out there. It’s hard to figure out what will work for you and what’s worth the money. Well, I saw an ad for Walmart’s beauty subscription service so I looked into it. For only $5, you get a specially curated box per season (four a year). Even though I don’t love Walmart, I’m a hopeless beauty junkie and I really wanted to try this.
After I ordered, I reached out to customer service to see what box I’d be getting and when. It said Spring boxes go out in March, so I didn’t know if I was too late. They said that they were actually behind schedule, and still sending out Winter boxes (which should have gone out in January), so that’s what I’d be getting. That makes me nervous, that a company could be this late with their shipping schedule. I’m not sure what that means for the Spring and Summer boxes. Will I be getting them more closely together than intended in order to make up the delay? Or do they wait the same amount of time between boxes even though that means I’ll get Spring in summer and Summer in fall, and so on? That’s to be determined and I’ll definitely post about the next box when I get it.
But let’s get to what’s in the box. I don’t get how a $5 subscription can give you eight samples. And good size ones! The samples are big enough to actually get a feel for if the product is for you or not. I got a Real Techniques contouring/highlighting makeup sponge (which is about $5 on its own), Aveeno Yogurt Body Wash, Biore Baking Soda Acne Scrub, Gold Bond Radiance Renewal Body Lotion, Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Ointment Body Spray, Soo AE Purifying Brightening Peeling Gel, Dove Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo and Roc Multi Correction 5 in 1 Chest, Neck and Face Cream.
It looks like the other subscribers got some of the same products, with some variation, I’m guessing based upon the beauty profile you fill out or maybe when you sign up some products aren’t available anymore, etc.
Another good thing about the Walmart box over Birchbox or Ipsy, is that the samples are things I can actually afford if I end up really liking a product. Whereas Birchbox sends me a sample of $54 moisturizer that I will never be able to justify.
It’s not quite as satisfying not getting a box every month, but for less money and better products I can deal.
